Soflajo: Guardian of The Lake

Today I have my second Soflajo Year of the Dragon polish to share with you!

This one is called Guardian of the Lake, which is described as "blue glitter and depending on your base coat, shifts from turquoise to blue to violet"

I decided to try this color over a couple of the Essie Resort 2012 polishes that I posted about last week.  (I'll put the colors I used before the layering combos to give you a good idea of the transformation that the Soflajo topcoat gives!)

Essie -No More Film

Guardian of the Lake over No More Film
Essie - Sure Shot
Guardian of the Lake over Sure Shot

I love these results!!  Guardian of the Lake is a total win!  The blue glittery shimmer is amazing, and I like that the glitter in it isn't gritty at all because it is very fine.  You can get so many different looks with the Soflajo Year of the Dragon color-shifting glitter top coats.

Neon Pink + Skull Stamping

The mani I am sharing today is far from perfect but in my defense, I threw it together in about 15 minutes before I had to leave for a  birthday party.  I think considering how fast I did it, it's pretty damn cool!

Too Hot to Handle + Stamping

The main color is a new Icing polish I got recently called Too Hot To Handle.  I only did 1 coat because of my time constraint, and it covered pretty well.  I'd definitely do two next time if I have more time.  I then stamped with Wet N Wild Black Creme an image from my new DRK-A large stamping plate.  It's such an awesome plate!  I messed the stamp job up a little bit but that was my error, not the fault of the plate.

I added LA Girl Glitter Addict in Uninhibited to finish off the look.

This mani actually got a lot of compliments at the party I wore it to, so I think that means all-in-all it was a success!

Do you love neon polishes like this one as much as I do?  What do you do when you have to do a mani in a short amount of time?

Essie: Red Ruby Slippers

The polish I am posting about today is WELL overdo!  I got this amazing polish for christmas from one of my polish besties, Katie, aka The Nailaholic.  This polish was on my lemming list and she was so nice to get me a bottle as a gift <3.

Isn't it fab?  I know there are lots of glittery red "ruby slipper" type polishes out there but this one just really takes the cake in my opinion.  It's so shiny and gorgeous, and this is just 2 coats.  I really thought I was going to need three but it surprised me.

Thank you so much Katie, I love it!  :)

What do you think of this polish?  What's your favorite red glittery polish?

Gorramit + Stamping

Last week I showed you swatches of Nerd Lacquer's color Gorramit!    Today I am sharing what I wound up doing with that mani before taking it off completely.

I decided to try out an image from my DRK-A Image Plate which is AWESOME!  Then I also added an image from one of my Cheeky plates onto the thumb.

This mani was super fun to wear and got lots of compliments!

Nails on Fire!

So last week my good friend Jamie posted an awesome tutorial on her blog, Nails Adored.

The tutorial was intended to achieve a "grunge effect" on the nail, and the nails she did with it are just incredible.  You have to go see them:  http://www.nailsadored.com/2012/03/23/grunge-effect-tutorial/.

So anyway, I thought this tutorial could be used also to get a fire-like effect on the nail too, so that is what I used it for...since this past weekend was Hunger Games release weekend and all, it seemed fitting!

Nails, BEFORE the last step, and before adding accent nail.
Up there you'll see what my nails looked like after I had done all steps of the tutorial except for the last, most important, step of using a brush dipped in acetone and carefully making strokes across the nail to remove some of the layers of polish to reveal the black underneath in certain spots.

And here is the end result!...

In the sun

I absolutely love how this came out!  I am soooo happy I decided to use the tutorial, it wasn't even hard at all, even for someone like me who rarely does nail art other than stamping or splattering.

After I did the tutorial nails, I added the accent nails.  Those are done with the same black base as the rest of the nails started off with, and then I mixed together Nerd Lacquer's Regeneration and China Glaze Riveting, and then sponged that mixture onto the two accent nails.

List of Products used:
Wet N Wild - Black Creme (base color, 2 coats)
Color Club - Polish for All, P Is for Pride, I always get my Man-darin, Dress for the Parade
China Glaze - Riveting
Nerd Lacquer - Regeneration
Seche Vite Top coat

NerdLacquer: Gorramit!

Hey all, another Nerd Lacquer to share today!

This one is one of the Serentiy/Firefly named ones, and it's called Gorramit.  This is a term they use as a swear word in the series.

Gorramit is described as "A cantankerous golden yellow with silver and gold microglitter, gold glitter, medium square red glitter, and multiple sizes of copper and rust hexagonal glitter. A little feisty, but easy on the eyes, and quite opaque in two coats".

I Love love love this!  That's all I can really say!  Formula and application were amazing, 2 coats are pictured.

I basically need every Nerd Lacquer known to man, they are so awesome!

Did you watch the Firefly series?  What do you think of this color?

Capitol Colours: Smoke & Ashes and Agro!

Hey guys!  I have two polishes to share with you from the China Glaze Capitol Colours collection!

The two I am going to be showing you today are called Smoke & Ashes and Agro.  These polishes are promotionally linked to the upcoming Hunger Games movie, which I am greatly excited about!  The books were amazing so I have high hopes for the movie.  As a huge Hunger Games fan, I was psyched when I heard China Glaze was going to have a set of polishes based on the books/movie!

Smoke & Ashes

Smoke & Ashes
Smoke & Ashes is a really cool polish that appears to be mostly black with a shimmer at first glance, but it is so much more than that!   The base is really more of a dark blue/green/black with a shimmer that shifts blue/green depending on the light it's in.  When I saw the bottle I about died it was so gorgeous!  I love it on the nail too, you can kinda see the blue tones if you look closely, but it was super hard to photograph, you definitely need to take a look at this one in person if you get the chance.

This is two coats and the formula was great! You might be able to even get away with one coat.

Agro

Agro
Agro is a gorgeous metallic-shimmery green.  The formula was perfect, I did two coats, but it was nearly a one-coater.  It really just glows on my nails! I love it!  I don't even know what else to say about it other than it's awesome and a definite must-have if you love greens.

These polishes are available in stores now and are limited edition, so grab them while they are around!

Do you like holographic polish?  Are you a fan of more linear (like this color) or a more scattered holo look?

Essie Resort 2012!

Hey guys!  I have the Essie summer collection to share with you today, Resort 2012.

Last year's resort collection was really great so it had a lot to live up to, it totally met my expectations!  Here are the pics so you can decide if you agree!

Sure Shot
Sure Shot is a vivid metallic shimmer that is super shiny!  The pigment in the polish is really deep which is nice, I painted on two coats but I probably could have done one.  I really love this color, I think I will use it for my next pedi!

No More Film
No More Film is a a dark, deep purplish blue.  Another highly pigmented color which could almost be a one-coater, except the 1st coat was a tad streaky so I had to even it out with the second one.  This color is pretty unique to my collection, which I always welcome!

Pink-A-Boo

Pink-A-Boo is a sheer light cotton-candy type pink.  The finish on this polish is amazing!  It's a glass-fleck type finish with a gorgeous blue shimmer!  It reminds me of the opposite of SinfulColors' Cinderella (which is a sheer light blue glass fleck with a pinkish shimmer).  I had to do three coats and in the pictures there is still a little VNL but in person that was much less noticable.  I might try this one out with a light pink cream "underwear" next time I wear it.  I rarely love a light pink, but this one is incredible!

She's Picture Perfect

She's Picture Perfect
She's Picture Perfect is a violet, almost periwinkle  but not quite, shimmer.  The shimmer is pink but very subtle.  If you look closely at the first pic above you can definitely see that shimmer peeking through.  This color was a little sheer, but only needed two coats.  It's also very unique to my collection, so it's a win for me.

All in all I am incredibly happy to have this collection because I adore all of the colors!

Do you have the Essie Resort 2012 collection yet?   Which color is your favorite?

Priti NYC Nail Polish

Hi guys! Today I have a few colors from a brand that is new to me and my blog, Priti NYC.

A little bit about the company, taken from their website, here:
Priti NYC polishes are all completely non-toxic and made without toluene, dibutyl phthalate (DHB) and formaldehyde- all known carcinogenic ingredients. The luxury polishes are fast drying, chip resistant, contain a UV inhibitor, and are extremely durable and glossy. They are also completely safe for use on children and moms-to-be. Available in over 100 different shades including metallics, mattes, bright neons, rich darks, classic nudes, and everything in between, limited color selection due to ecological restraints has officially become a thing of the past.
I was excited to try out their polishes, as I had heard good things about the brand from friends.

The first color I am reviewing is called Geisha Girl.

Geisha Girl is a dusty, grey toned purple.  The formula was easy to work with, and it was opaque in two coats.  I am not sure if this color looks great with my skin tone but I think it's very pretty.  It's a nice creme that I think is versatile for many different looks since it isn't overly bright or overbearing.

Next up, Etoile Violet:
Daylight lamp bulb

Sunlight
Etoile Violet is a very vibrant opalescent purple shade.  It was super hard to photograph accurately but I think I have it pretty well-represented in the above pics.  The formula wasn't quite as easy to work with as the previous color was, but I did two coats and it worked out alright, it was the first coat that was a little stubborn.  The finish is gorgeous on this one!  This color is really fun and lively.

Overall I was really happy with my first Priti NYC experience and would definitely love to try more of their colors in the future!

These polishes retail for $12.50 each and can be purchased from their website, here.

Quick swatches of New SinfulColors!: "Sheer Shimmer Collection"

Hey guys, three posts in one day!?  Sorry for that but I wanted to share these quick wheel swatches with you of some new SinfulColors I found yesterday at Walgreens!  I wish I had taken a pic of the displaybut the name on it was "Sheer Shimmer Collection".

The display featured two much older colors (Purple Diamond and Glass Pink), then Cinderella, and then the following five NEW colors:  Flutter, Luminary, Firefly, Sweet Dreams, and Morning Star.

They are all very fine glass-fleck/shimmer finishes, and I think they are gorgeous! (and honestly were not very sheer at all, which I am happy about)

Left to Right 1 and then 2 coats of each: Flutter, Luminary, Firefly

Left to Right 1 and then 2 coats of each: Sweet Dreams, Morning Star
I love that they aren't very sheer at all, the color pops out really nicely and the formulas are really good.   I will try to get actual nail swatches of these up in the near future so keep an eye out for them!

I was so excited to find these!  Keep a look out for them at your local Walgreens store.  As usual they are priced at $1.99 each.
